Chapter 2 - The Stolen IdentityVanessa’s hands shook as she clutched the folder, but her eyes held a cold, desperate ambition.

“Mom said you were supposed to stay in the house until tomorrow morning,” Vanessa stammered, taking an aggressive step into the kitchen. “The private clinic in Palm Springs was already booked under my name! You weren't supposed to go into labor tonight!”

My stomach churned with utter horror as the sick truth washed over me.

For five months, my sister had pretended to be pregnant on her social media channels, wearing bump pads and posting fake ultrasound images. I had thought it was a bizarre ploy for online attention.

I had no idea my parents and sister were planning to drug me during labor, deliver my newborn child at an unaccredited private estate clinic, and register my baby under Vanessa’s name!

“Where is Daniel?” I screamed through a wave of excruciating pain. “What did you do to my husband?!”

Vanessa let out a nervous laugh. “Daniel’s phone was disabled by Dad’s security team at his office parking garage hours ago. He thinks you’re already at the hospital with us!”

She stepped forward, pulling a small syringe from her coat pocket. “Just let me give you this sedative, Claire. Mom said if you stay quiet, we’ll let you see the baby once the adoption papers are signed!”
