Chapter 4 - The Locksmith and the LedgerBy eight o'clock the following morning, a locksmith van was parked in the driveway.

With Detective Ruiz standing beside me, I changed every lock on the front door, the back patio, and the garage.
My attorney, Sarah Jenkins, arrived carrying a heavy briefcase filled with emergency injunction papers signed by a municipal court judge.
âWe have an emergency temporary restraining order, Claire,â Sarah announced, handing me the signed document. âDaniel is legally barred from coming within one thousand feet of this house or your workplace. In addition, I have filed an emergency freeze on all joint accounts.â
While the locksmith finished the deadbolts, Sarah and I walked upstairs to Danielâs private home officeâa room he had kept locked for five years under the pretense of "confidential client files."
Using a master key provided by the police search warrant, Sarah unlocked the heavy oak desk drawer.
