Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Revolt

"You lied to me?!" Connor roared, lunging toward Alyssa before two ushers grabbed his arms to hold him back. "You faked the pregnancy?!"

"She didn't just fake the pregnancy, Connor," I said, handing the silicone prosthetic to a waiting legal assistant. "She also helped you commit securities fraud."

Marcus Vance stepped onto the altar platform, opening his leather briefcase and pulling out certified copies of the forensic corporate filings.

"Mr. Vance," Marcus announced into the hall's main microphone. "Pursuant to the revocation of the Sterling Logistics proprietary patent license, Apex Vanguard has incurred an immediate operational liability of forty-eight million dollars. Furthermore, the board of directors held an emergency proxy session thirty minutes ago."

Several senior board members seated in the VIP rows stood up in unison, nodding in grim agreement.

"By unanimous vote of the controlling shares held in trust for Miss Brinley Vance," Marcus continued, "Connor Vance has been permanently removed as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for gross fiduciary negligence and misrepresentation of corporate assets."

Connor turned white as chalk. He looked around the glittering ballroom, but every single business partner, investor, and friend was staring at him with cold disgust.

"You can't do this!" Connor screamed, his eyes wild with panic. "Apex is mine! I built it!"

"You built it on my grandfather’s patents and my family’s money," I said softly, looking him dead in the eyes. "And today, it returns to the daughter you called worthless."
