I lifted my right hand high into the air above the crowd, raising the object for all three hundred guests, photographers, and corporate board members to see.

It was not a baby.

The entire ballroom erupted into collective, deafening pandemonium.

"Oh my God!" a society matriarch screamed from row two.

Connor stood paralyzed in the center of the aisle, his mouth wide open, his eyes bulging as he stared at the silicone prosthetic hanging from my hand, and then down at Alyssa’s completely flat midsection beneath her torn lace corset.

"Alyssa...?" Connor stammered, his voice cracking into a high-pitched squeak. "What... what is that?!"

Alyssa collapsed onto the marble floor, burying her face in her hands and weeping hysterically. "Connor... I'm sorry! You said you would only leave her if you had a son! I was going to arrange an adoption in Europe next month! I did it for us!"
