The Shadow’s Audit / Chapter 7 / 10

Chapter 7 - The Hostile TakeoverWith Vance gone and Celeste paralyzed with fear, the board meeting turned into a rout.

I stood at the head of the table, looking at the men and women who had once ignored me. "My father built Vale-Carter Capital on a simple principle: trust. Adrian Vale systematically violated that trust, not just with me, but with every single investor in this room. He used your capital to pay off his personal debts, and he used my name to cover his tracks."

I reached into my bag and pulled out the physical, signed duplicates of my father's original trust agreements. "According to the bylaws of the Carter trust, any voting proxy obtained through fraud or coercion is legally null and void. The temporary agreement I signed after my father’s death is officially terminated."

I looked at the board members. "I am stepping into my father’s role as the majority shareholder and Chairperson of the Board. If you stand with me, we will rebuild this firm. If you stand with Adrian, you are welcome to submit your resignations today."

For a long, tense second, no one moved.

Then, the oldest board member, a close friend of my father’s named Thomas, stood up. He looked at me with a soft, proud smile. "Your father would be incredibly proud of you, Clara. You have my vote. Always."

One by one, every single board member raised their hand.

Celeste sat frozen, her face pale, her eyes wide with a mixture of rage and terror as she realized her family's access to the Carter fortune was gone forever.

"Meeting adjourned," I said, my voice steady and victorious. "Evelyn, please coordinate with our legal team to draft the official press release. The Carter legacy is back in Carter hands."
