Chapter 3 - Stripped of the CrownThe news of the "Sanctuary Scandal" hit the high-society blogs and financial papers of New York by Monday morning. The Fall of the Mercers: Billionaire’s Daughter Humiliated at Wedding, Exposes Multi-Million Dollar Fraud.

I sat in the quiet, sunlit study of my father's estate, a warm cup of herbal tea in my hands. Beside me sat Leah, my personal attorney and a top-tier forensic analyst.
"We've frozen all their corporate accounts, Claire," Leah said, sliding a thick blue binder across the table. "The moment your father initiated the emergency clause in the hotel's lease agreement, the bank triggered a full audit of Mercer Enterprises. They owe over twelve million dollars in unpaid commercial loans to Vale Capital."
"And Daniel?" I asked, my voice completely devoid of the emotion he expected me to feel.
"Daniel’s partners are already pulling out of the firm," Leah smiled. "He’s been calling our office every ten minutes, begging for a meeting with you. He says he was 'confused' and 'panicked' at the wedding."
"He wasn't confused, Leah," I said, looking out the window at the gardens. "He was a coward who believed his family's prestige was more important than his wife's safety. He allowed his mother and sister to tear my dress and humiliate me in front of two hundred people."
"He’s going to pay for every single thread of that dress, Claire," my father, Arthur Vale, said, stepping into the room. His tall, imposing figure was dressed in a sharp, tailored suit, his eyes holding a warm, protective pride. "The Mercer family has spent decades treating people as disposable. But they forgot that the land beneath their feet belongs to us."

"What’s the next step, Dad?" I asked.
"We foreclose on their primary residence," Arthur smiled, a cold, dangerous glint in his eyes. "The historic Mercer farmhouse. It’s time to show them what it actually feels like to be 'poor trash'."
