Chapter 6 - The Dinner of Wolves

Two days later, Diane organized an exclusive private celebration dinner at the estate to mark the upcoming arrival of the corporate buyout. She had invited twenty of her wealthiest socialite friends, business associates, and several prominent local board members.
The long mahogany dining table in the grand hall was decorated with white calla lilies, sterling silver flatware, and crystal decanters of vintage Bordeaux. Diane sat at the head of the table in an emerald velvet evening dress, beaming as her friends showered her with compliments on her family's incredible success.
"Brian has always been an exceptional provider," Diane announced proudly, raising her wine glass. "Through careful management and family unity, we have built an empire that represents the very pinnacle of Arizona enterprise."
Ashley chimed in, tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder. "To the next chapter of luxury!"
The guests clinked their glasses and cheered.
Right at that moment, the heavy double doors of the dining room swung open.
I walked into the room wearing a sharp charcoal suit, accompanied by Marcus Rivera, who carried two large leather briefcases. Behind us, two uniformed Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies and an investigator from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office stepped quietly into the foyer.
The laughter died instantly.

"Brian, darling?" Diane asked, lowering her glass with a nervous laugh. "What is the meaning of this? Why are police officers in our home during a private dinner?"
"It isn't your home, Diane," I said, my voice cutting through the silence like a razor blade. "And this isn't a celebration. It's an eviction."
