Chapter 4 - The Pen and the Trap

At 9:00 AM the next morning, the smell of fresh French roast coffee filled the sunlit marble kitchen. Diane sat at the breakfast island wearing a new silk robe, flipping through a luxury real estate magazine, while Ashley scrolled on her tablet, browsing high-end sports cars.
"Good morning, Brian darling," Diane chirped cheerfully. "Did you sleep well?"
"Very well, Mom," I answered, placing a thick leather-bound legal folder on the marble counter between them. "I have the corporate audit reconsolidation documents ready. The corporate compliance officer and a traveling mobile notary are waiting in the study."
Diane glanced at the thick stack of papers. "Is all of this truly necessary for the two-million-dollar buyout?"
"The acquiring firm requires zero liability and absolute chain-of-title verification," I explained with complete professional composure. "By signing this, you and Ashley formally return all power-of-attorney privileges, sign over the LLC holding the estate title, and release all signatory authority on every bank account back to me. Once the audit verifies clean title, the buyout wire will hit this exact account within forty-eight hours."
Ashley grabbed a gold Montblanc pen eagerly. "Where do I sign, Brian? I saw an incredible penthouse in Paradise Valley that would be an amazing investment for the family firm."
"Right there on page twelve, Ashley," I pointed calmly. "And Mom, initial pages three through eleven, then sign the master property transfer deed on page fourteen."
Diane didn't hesitate. Blinded by the illusion of a massive financial windfall, she swiftly signed and initialed every single document, handing the pen back to me with a triumphant smile.
"We always knew you'd take this family to the top, Brian," Diane said, patting my hand affectionately.

The certified mobile notary stepped in, checked their government IDs, stamped the official gold foil seals on each deed, and packed the documents into a secure courier envelope.
The moment the courier walked out the front door, the trap snapped shut. Every cent, every deed, and every asset had legally returned to my sole ownership.
