Chapter 9 - Unmasking the LieAmara walked slowly toward the iron gates, stopping inches away from Adrian.

âHome, Adrian?â Amara spoke softly, her voice carrying through the quiet press crowd. âYou threw me out into the rain because you believed a forged paper over the woman who loved you.â
At that moment, Lieutenant Marcus from the State Police Major Crimes Division stepped out of a black SUV behind the press line, holding an iPad.
âMr. Cole!â Lieutenant Marcus announced loudly. âOur forensic cyber unit just completed the IP trace on the five-million-dollar wire transfers!â
Vanessaâs face instantly drained of all color.
âThe wire transfers were generated from Miss Vanessa Crossâs personal laptop,â Lieutenant Marcus revealed, holding up an official arrest warrant. âShe forged the documents to frame Amara Sterling for grand larceny!â
The reporters gasped, flashes strobing like lightning!
Two uniformed officers stepped forward, grabbing Vanessaâs arms and pinning her against a police cruiser.
âGet off me!â Vanessa shrieked as steel handcuffs snapped around her wrists. âAmara! Tell them to stop! Adrian, help me!â
Adrian didn't even look at Vanessa. He kept his eyes locked on Amara, tears streaming down his face.

âAmara... I don't care about the Sterling fortune,â Adrian wept, his hands clutching the iron bars. âI loved you when you were holding a piece of bread in the rain. I loved you when you wore a five-dollar dress. Please... give me a chance to earn your forgiveness.â
Amara looked at him through the rain, seeing the raw, genuine heartbreak in his eyesâthe same eyes that had offered her an umbrella when the rest of the world ignored her.
