Chapter 6 - The Breaking PointAdrian drove home in a haze of blind, devastated rage.

He threw the office doors open, finding Amara in the living room, carefully arranging fresh yellow roses in a glass vase.
âAdrian?â Amara smiled warmly, walking toward him. âYouâre home earlyââ
âDid you take it?!â Adrian yelled, his voice echoing off the high ceilings as he threw the audit binder onto the marble coffee table.
Amara froze, her smile fading. âTake what, Adrian? What are you talking about?â
âFive million dollars!â Adrian shouted, his face pale with heartbreak and anger. âIt was all a game to you, wasn't it?! The humble act, the kindness, the sweet wordsâyou just wanted my money like everyone else!â
Amara looked down at the forged bank statements, tears immediately welling up in her eyes.
âAdrian... I didn't steal anything from you,â Amara whispered, her voice trembling. âI have never touched your accounts. I loved you for who you are.â
âThe bank records have your name on them!â Adrian roared, blinded by his past trauma. âPack your things and get out of my house!â
The room fell dead silent.
Amara looked at the man she had given her heart to. She didn't yell. She didn't scream. She simply wiped a single tear from her cheek, her posture hardening into pure, unshakeable dignity.

âI came into this house with nothing, Adrian,â Amara said quietly, pulling off her simple gold wedding band and setting it on the glass table. âAnd I will leave with nothing. But I never lied to you.â
She picked up her old, worn duffel bag, walked out the front doors into the pouring rain, and vanished into the night.
