Chapter 3 - Whispers in the MansionBy the end of the week, news of Adrian Cole’s sudden marriage to an unknown, homeless plus-size woman sent shockwaves through high-society circles.

Inside the sprawling Cole Manor, the reaction was brutal.

When Amara walked through the grand marble foyer wearing a simple, elegant ivory sweater dress that complimented her beautiful curves, the servants whispered behind their hands.

“Look at her size,” a maid snickered in the kitchen. “Mr. Cole could have had any model in New York, and he brings home a street beggar.”

More venomous, however, was Vanessa Cross—Adrian’s glamorous former lover and daughter of a major Cole Global investor.

Vanessa arrived unannounced at dinner that evening, wearing a tight red cocktail dress, her diamond jewelry sparkling maliciously under the chandelier light.

“Adrian, darling,” Vanessa purred, looking Amara up and down with cold disgust. “I thought you brought a new catering manager. I didn't realize your tastes had become so... generous.”

Amara set her linen napkin down, keeping her spine straight, her posture regal.

“Generosity is a virtue, Miss Cross,” Amara said smoothly, her tone unbothered. “It’s a pity your diamond necklace didn't come with any.”

Vanessa’s jaw dropped. Several staff members choked back gasps of surprise.

Adrian looked at Amara, a sudden, spark of genuine admiration warming his chest.
