Chapter 5 - The Raid on the Suburban HouseWhile Wade was loaded into a state police transport van, forensic teams equipped with ground-penetrating radar entered the detached workshop behind the garage.

By 6:00 a.m., as the morning sun broke over the trees, forensic archaeologists uncovered human remains buried six feet beneath the concrete slab—remains holding a silver wedding ring engraved with the name Daniel.

In addition, investigators found Officer Miller’s private phone number written on a notepad beside Wade’s desk, along with records of monthly cash payments Wade had made to keep local police reports from being filed over the past seven years.

Officer Miller was taken into custody at his precinct locker room two hours later, stripped of his badge and charged with felony obstruction and bribery.
