Chapter 4 - The Cold Case of DanielAt 3:30 a.m., four state police cruisers surrounded the quiet suburban property on Maple Drive.

Wade’s dark pickup truck was parked in the driveway, its engine still warm.

Inside the dark house, Wade was frantically throwing documents into a metal trash bin in the living room, setting them ablaze with a lighter, while my mother sat tied to a wooden dining chair in the corner, her mouth taped shut!

BOOM!

State police tactical officers breached the front door with a hydraulic ram!

“STATE POLICE! DROP THE LIGHTER! ON THE GROUND NOW!” officers screamed, flooding the room with tactical lights!

Wade tried to lunge for a shotgun resting against the sofa, but two tactical officers tackled him onto the carpet, slamming his face against the floorboards!

The steel handcuffs snapped around Wade’s wrists!

Detective Vance stepped into the smoke-filled living room, kicking the burning trash bin outside onto the lawn, saving half-burned pages of my mother's journal and legal files.
