Chapter 5 - The Gaslight BlueprintThe private locker room of the Manhattan Athletic Club was empty and quiet. I walked past the row of polished mahogany lockers, my heels clicking softly on the marble floor.

I stopped in front of locker 304—Evan’s private space. I pulled out his set of keys, which I had taken from his nightstand before leaving the house, and inserted the small silver key into the lock.

With a soft, heavy click, the door swung open.

Inside, sitting on a velvet shelf, was a leather-bound notebook and an encrypted external hard drive. I opened the notebook, and my breath caught in my throat as I read the handwriting.

It was a detailed, step-by-step blueprint of their gaslighting campaign against me.

January 14: Move C's car keys to the kitchen drawer. Delete her 10 AM board meeting from her phone calendar. Act concerned when she panics.

February 3: Replace her daily vitamins with the sedatives. She will complain of fatigue and memory loss. Suggest she take a leave of absence from the firm.

March 12: Introduce Leah's fake embezzlement files to the board. C will react emotionally and fire her, cutting off her only family support.

I stared at the pages, a cold, blinding rage beginning to ignite deep within my soul. It was a written confession of psychological torture. They had documented my confusion, my tears, and my panic like a science experiment, laughing behind my back while I wept in our bed, wondering why my mind was failing me.

"You really are a monster, Evan," I whispered, clutching the notebook to my chest.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over the locker. I spun around to find Evan’s mother, Eleanor, standing in the doorway, her face pale with an elegant, icy rage.

"Put that back, Claire," Eleanor commanded, her voice sharp and cold. "You have no right to touch my son's private property. Your marriage is a private matter. You have dragged our family name through the dirt in front of the entire city."

"Your son is a thief and a domestic abuser, Eleanor," I said, stepping closer to her, my voice completely steady. "He didn't just steal my money; he poisoned me. He framed my sister. And you knew about it, didn't you? You were the one who recommended the private clinic where they were planning to send me."

Eleanor's eyes flickered with a sudden, brief moment of panic. "I was only trying to help a sick, unstable daughter-in-law."

"I'm not sick, Eleanor," I said, sliding the notebook and the hard drive into my bag. "I’m the CEO of Vance Tech. And by tomorrow morning, your family's prestigious reputation will be completely bankrupt. Get out of my way."
