Chapter 5 - The Glass House

This chapter details the exact moment from Chapter 1 but from an omniscient, detailed perspective, showing the dynamic shift of power from image_92fc8d.jpg.
Claire held the edge of the velvet drape. Her thumb rubbed the smooth, heavy blue fabric. The room, smelling of truffle and rich paranoia, seemed to inhale.
She pulled the fabric away.
The impact was physical. A sudden silence that felt heavier than sound.
The portrait on the easel, illuminated by a dedicated picture light, was a perfect reconstruction of the nightmare Claire had seen on her phone (Chapter 2). But on a six-foot scale, every detail was terrifying.
Daniel’s expression, as captured in image_92fc8d.jpg, wasn't just shock; it was the collapse of his identity. He staggered backward, his expensive watch catching the light, gesturing toward the canvas as if to physically ward it off. The man in the background, hands over his face, was his best man, Michael.
And Vanessa. Her perfect composure in Chapter 1 cracked. She clawed at Richard’s arm, her mouth slightly agape, staring at the physical manifestation of her crime. The diamond choker (Chapter 2) suddenly looked like a noose.
Claire, holding the blue silk, didn't yell. Her tone was the same flat, clinical delivery she used when presenting findings to a board. She pointed a unwavering finger.
"This photo was sent by you, Vanessa. At 6:13 Wednesday morning. Richard, I believe you were at the global conference in London. Vanessa sent this not as a confession, but as an act of dominance. To remind me that this family makes its own rules."
She turned to Daniel. "For five years, you told me I was 'cold.' But I see now that you only ever found warmth in your father's bed. And when your startup needed money, you didn't ask for investments. You stole ten million dollars from the Sterling Foundation, authorized by Vanessa, using her relative's identity as a front. I have the audit. I have the surveillance logs of the cash transfers and the diamond purchases. I have the contract for the Miami condo. And I have the dynamic asset clause in our prenup that means everything you two touched, I now control."

Claire swept her arm toward the table. "Welcome home. I've set the table, not for a family dinner, but for a hostile audit. Tonight, everyone gets to see the true cost of legacy wealth."
Her words shattered the last fragile peace of the glass house. The Sterlings were exposed, and the portrait in image_92fc8d.jpg was the first nail in their coffin.
