Chapter 1 - The Six-Foot PortraitThe scene in Claire and Daniel's penthouse living room was manicured perfection. Crystal chandeliers (just like the ones in the background of image_92fc8d.jpg) cast prisms of light onto the polished marble floor. A twenty-seat mahogany table was set for twelve, gleaming with silver service and arrangements of white roses. The air smelled faintly of truffle and betrayal.

Tonight was the semi-annual Sterling family dinner. Daniel, the golden boy, was expected to announce his new, grand business venture. His father, Richard, was arriving with Vanessa, his beautiful, razor-sharp stepmother.
And Claire was ready.
She stood by the six-foot, black-draped canvas in the center of the room, looking at the intricate placement of the portrait and the easel, referencing image_92fc8d.jpg. Claire wore an indigo-blue silk gown with a thigh-high slit, the color of power and deep ocean currents. Her hair was swept up in a tight, elegant knot. She didn’t look like the submissive "boring accountant" the Sterlings knew.
The doorbell rang at exactly 7:00 PM. Punctuality was Vanessa’s rule.
The guests arrived in a swirl of perfume and arrogance. Daniel, already sipping a highball, was laughing with his sister, Eleanor, when Richard and Vanessa entered.
Vanessa looked like a queen, her arm through Richard’s. She wore a diamond choker that cost more than Claire’s annual salary. She gave Claire a dismissive nod. “Lovely centerpieces, Claire. Simple.”
They moved into the living room, gathering near the covered canvas.
“What’s this, Daniel? Pre-gaming your big announcement with art?” Richard asked, clapping his son on the shoulder.
Daniel looked confused. “I… don’t know, Dad. Claire?”
Claire walked slowly to the canvas. The room fell silent. “Daniel always said this family was about visibility. Tonight, I wanted to ensure we all saw the same thing.”
With a swift, practiced motion, she pulled the black cloth. The fabric whispered against the floor.
The room froze. For one second, there was no sound.
The portrait on the easel, referencing image_92fc8d.jpg, was monstrously clear. The photo, taken from above, showed Vanessa and Daniel asleep in Claire’s bed. Daniel’s arm was draped over Vanessa’s pale shoulder, her hand resting on his chest. It was an image of absolute, incestuous intimacy.
The collective gasp from the family was a sharp, ugly sound. Richard dropped his bourbon glass, the liquid splashing near the easel. Vanessa’s perfect face twisted into a mask of pure terror.
But the most striking reaction was Daniel’s. As shown in image_92fc8d.jpg, he stumbled backward, one hand on his head, the other gesturing toward the portrait in total, gasping disbelief. He looked like a man being erased.
Behind him, guests like the dark-haired woman in image_92fc8d.jpg covered their mouths in horror.

Claire, holding the blue fabric, pointed a single, unwavering finger directly at the image, her gaze locked on Vanessa, then Daniel. “Wednesday morning, 6:13 AM. While Richard was in London. You sent it to me, Vanessa. You said I was born to clean up after you. Tonight, I am cleaning house.”
The silence that followed was heavy with impending destruction.
