Chapter 9 - The Ghost’s ArrivalWord travels fast across the sprawling, secretive networks of the global underworld.

Within weeks of the Lake Placid incident, high-ranking syndicate leaders, financial brokers, and regional capos from Europe, Asia, and South America began making discreet pilgrimages to upstate New York. They didn't come to wage war or seek territory; they came to pay homage to the Ghost King, and more importantly, to catch a glimpse of the woman who held his heart.

One evening in late June, a sleek black motorcade of three armored Mercedes sedans wound its way up the private gravel driveway of the estate, coming to a smooth halt before the grand stone steps.

I stood on the front porch with Claire by my side as the doors opened.

Out stepped Viktor, followed by several senior regional directors from our European and Asian divisions. They walked up the stone steps in unison, stopped ten feet away, and dropped gracefully onto one knee in a synchronized display of absolute fealty.

“Ghost,” Viktor spoke formally, bowing his head. “And Lady Claire. We come to ensure that your sanctuary in the mountains remains undisturbed and absolute.”

Claire looked slightly startled by the formal display of reverence, but she maintained her poise with natural grace, stepping forward slightly.

“Please, rise,” Claire said, her voice clear and resonant. “You are all welcome in our home. But tonight, you are guests, not soldiers. There is no war to fight here.”

Viktor and the capos stood up slowly, a collective look of profound respect washing over their hardened faces. They realized instantly that Claire wasn't just the Ghost King’s wife; she possessed the ironclad composure and natural dignity of a true queen.

“As you command, Lady Claire,” Viktor bowed respectfully.

That evening, the grand dining hall of the estate was filled not with the tense, fragile socialite pretensions of Evelyn Whitmore’s high-society dinners, but with genuine laughter, fine food, and the easy camaraderie of people who understood the true value of loyalty, family, and peace.
