Chapter 14 - The Wedding Under the Roses

They married in garden where first confrontation happened.
Same rose bushes Evan trimmed in disguise.
No giant charity brunch.
Forty people.
Sophie carried flowers.
Caleb carried rings and rabbit.
Grace wore simple ivory dress.
Evan black suit.
At ceremony Sophie whispered, “Daddy, don’t cry.”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“Security issue.”
Everyone laughed.
Evan vows:
“I spent most life believing protection meant control. Grace taught me protection can mean standing beside someone while they choose. She stood between violence and my daughter before knowing whether anyone powerful would defend her. Then she stood against me when I deserved it. I love her for both.”
Grace vows:
“You were not hero when I met you. You were man trying to become one for children. I didn’t fall in love with power. I fell in love with what you gave up.”
Amelia’s photograph sat on small table with Julian’s.
No erasure.
