Chapter 10 - The Garden of Honor

Two years later, golden afternoon sunlight bathed the backyard of our family home on the outskirts of Silver City.
The scent of blooming jasmine and damp earth filled the warm air. On the grass, our one-year-old son, Arthur Junior, giggled as he crawled toward an old metal watering can, splashing in the clean drops of water.
Dad sat on the wooden bench beneath the shade of a flowering apple tree, wearing his work gloves, showing little Arthur how to plant a tiny sunflower seed into a small clay pot.
"Cover it gently, little one," Dad murmured with a gentle chuckle, guiding the baby's tiny hands into the soft soil. "Give it water, give it light, and never be afraid of honest dirt. That's how strong roots grow."
Thomas walked out from the porch carrying a pitcher of fresh lemonade, wrapping an arm around my waist as he stood beside me.
"Look at them," Thomas whispered with a fond smile. "Three generations of Vances."
"The best generation," I replied, leaning my head against Thomas's chest.

Across town, Julian Preston was working as an entry-level clerk at a small logistics firm, his luxury life and high-society arrogance a distant memory. But in our garden, surrounded by love, purpose, and the unshakeable honor of a father who had given everything for his country and his child, our family had found true wealth.
The seeds my father had planted with his calloused, honest hands had finally grown into a legacy that would stand tall and unyielding for generations to come.
