Chapter 13 - The Trap is SetThough Linda was behind bars awaiting trial, Marcus and I knew her legal team would attempt every procedural trick in the book to secure a release on medical or technical grounds. Furthermore, federal investigators tracking the dormant trust fund diversion discovered that Linda had hidden a series of backup financial assets in off-shore accounts, intending to flee the country if her custody grab failed.

To ensure she could never threaten our family again, we needed concrete, irrefutable proof of her international flight conspiracy.

Using my engineering project management background, I designed a digital trap. We allowed a monitored, recorded phone call from a compliant jailhouse line, where a fabricated associate of Linda’s—actually an undercover financial investigator—offered her fake passport papers and a flight route to the Cayman Islands in exchange for signing over her remaining domestic bank accounts.

It was a textbook sting operation.

Three days later, Linda took the bait hook, line, and sinker.

During the recorded call, she eagerly accepted the fake passport arrangement, explicitly detailing how she planned to liquidate the last remaining assets she had stolen from my father’s estate and disappear forever.

The recording was handed directly to federal prosecutors within the hour.

Any lingering hope Linda had of securing a lenient plea deal or bail evaporated instantly. Federal indictments for wire fraud, identity theft, interstate flight conspiracy, and elder financial exploitation were formally added to her state charges.
