Chapter 6 - The Paper PaperworkBy nine o'clock that morning, the cityâs financial district was in chaos.

At the Downtown Title Exchange, Raymondâs legal team and the offshore buyers were waiting in Conference Room 4B to finalize the illegal sale of Claireâs medical plaza.
The door opened, but instead of Raymond Sterling arriving with the documents, Special Agent Reyes from the IRS Criminal Investigation Division walked in with four federal marshals.
âAll individuals in this room stay seated!â Agent Reyes commanded, holding up his badge. âThis transaction is officially seized under federal RICO authority.â
Within two hours, news of the federal raid hit every major broadcasting network in the state:
BREAKING NEWS: PROMINENT LAW FIRM STERLING & ASSOCIATES SEIZED IN MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT AND ELDER FRAUD SCHEME.
In the hospital, Claire sat up in bed, watching the news coverage on the wall-mounted television.
Her face was bandaged, but her posture was strong. She held a warm cup of tea in her hands, a deep, beautiful sense of peace finally returning to her eyes.
Victoria Vance walked into the room, placing a leather binder on her bedside table.
âThe divorce papers have been served to Evan in his holding cell, Claire,â Victoria announced. âAnd the court has granted an emergency annulment based on fraud and physical coercion. You are legally free.â
Claire let out a long, shuddering breath, a tear slipping down her cheekânot a tear of pain, but a tear of immense relief.

âThank you, Victoria,â Claire whispered.
I walked over, sitting on the edge of her bed, and took her small hand in mine. âYou don't ever have to look back, sweetie. The estate is restored, your accounts are secured, and those people will never touch your life again.â
