Chapter 2 - The Dinosaur DiagnosisBefore Nathan could form an answer, a woman in navy hospital scrubs walked rapidly across the lobby. Elena Torres looked exhausted, her dark hair loosely pinned back and faint red pressure lines still visible on her skin from wearing an N95 mask for twelve straight hours.

“Mia! I told you not to wander off,” Elena said, her voice a mix of parental panic and utter fatigue. She quickly reached her daughter, placing a protective hand on Mia's shoulder. Then, recognizing the man standing before her, her expression shifted into guarded surprise. “Mr. Caldwell... I am so sorry. She didn't mean to disturb you.”
“She didn't disturb me at all,” Nathan said, lowering himself to sit on one of the lobby chairs so he was closer to Mia’s eye level.
Mia looked at her mother, completely unfazed. “Mommy, I gave Mr. Almost Crying a dinosaur tissue. He said his heart feels like a Brontosaurus stuck in the rain.”
A faint flush rose on Elena’s cheeks, but her eyes remained watchful and cautious. She knew who Nathan Caldwell was—not just as the hospital's primary benefactor, but as a corporate titan currently under public scrutiny. Yet, as she looked at him sitting in the clinical waiting room light, holding a crumpled child's tissue, she saw only a brother terrified for his sister's life.
An assistant hurried toward Nathan. “Mr. Caldwell, the media trucks are gathering outside. We should move you to the private executive lounge upstairs.”

Nathan looked at the private door, then down at the dinosaur tissue in his palm. He looked up at Elena, whose tired eyes held a quiet, dignified strength that grounded him more than any executive suite ever could.
“No,” Nathan said calmly to his assistant. “I'll stay right here.”
