Chapter 12 - MARCO’S SACRIFICE ON THE WATERFRONT

The battle at the Brooklyn piers was loud, chaotic, and brutal. As Enzo’s tactical team swarmed the docks, Marco led the breach through the main loading bay, drawing heavy fire from Lorenzo’s entrenched snipers. From my position in the mobile command van parked outside the perimeter, I guided Enzo and his men through the labyrinthine container stacks using real-time thermal imaging. Suddenly, a red warning indicator flashed across my monitor: an armed enforcer had flanked Marco’s position from an elevated cat-walk, raising a rifle directly toward his blind spot.
"Marco, behind you!" I screamed into the comms headset. Marco whipped around just as the gunman fired. Without a single second of hesitation, Marco lunged forward, using his own broad frame to shield a younger operative, taking the brunt of the bullet in his upper shoulder. He collapsed hard against the concrete, the impact sending his weapon skidding across the asphalt. Enzo, witnessing the act of absolute loyalty from his oldest friend, unleashed a cold, calculated fury, neutralizing the sniper with two precise shots before rushing to Marco’s side and securing the perimeter.
