Chapter 8 - The Vow in the Garden

On a radiant Saturday in September, our wedding took place in the blooming gardens of our Evanston home.

White hydrangeas, climbing roses, and twinkling fairy lights decorated the cedar arbor overlooking the lawn. Over a hundred of our closest friends, hospital colleagues, and Mrs. Clara Greene sat beneath the azure sky.

Two-year-old Clara served as our flower girl, wearing an adorable ivory lace dress and tossing pink rose petals with pure, giggling delight.

Marcus stood at the altar in an immaculate black tuxedo, his eyes shining with tears of joy as I walked down the stone path in a flowing silk gown that caught the afternoon breeze.

When I reached his side, he took my hand, lifting my veil with infinite tenderness.

"Elena," Marcus spoke during his vows, his voice resonant and clear. "You taught me that true love is not born in the absence of pain, but in the courage to rise above it. I vow to honor you, cherish you, and stand as your partner and guardian for all the days of our lives."

"Marcus," I replied, my voice sweet and steady. "You pulled me from the darkest storm of my life and gave my daughter a father whose heart is pure gold. I am yours, completely and forever."

When the minister pronounced us husband and wife, Marcus dipped me into a passionate, breathtaking kiss, while our guests erupted into thunderous applause, and little Clara clapped her hands with joy.
