Chapter 8 - THE STOLEN SETTLEMENT

My bold proposal to step out of the shadows shocked the seasoned advisors, but Dante recognized the strategic brilliance behind it. If the Moretti syndicate believed I was still isolated and vulnerable, they would inevitably attempt a direct approach to exploit my perceived desperation. Romano immediately set to work crafting a brilliant legal deception: leaking fabricated court documents to underworld informants indicating that my initial prenuptial settlement had finally cleared through a secondary Swiss bank account, and that I was scheduled to meet with an independent notary downtown to sign the final asset transfer. It was a classic counter-intelligence trap, designed to draw the syndicate’s financial fixers out from their secure corporate offices and into an environment where our men could intercept them cleanly without triggering federal wiretaps or public shootouts.

Three days later, the trap was sprung in the private, wood-paneled office of a trusted notary near the financial district. I sat across from a neutral attorney hired by Romano, wearing a sharp maternity blazer and projecting an aura of calm confidence, while Dante and his tactical team monitored the perimeter from an unmarked surveillance van parked across the street. Exactly forty-eight hours after the leak, the door to the notary’s office opened, and a slick, expensive-looking corporate lawyer named Marcus Vance—known in the underworld as the primary legal cleaner for the Moretti family—stepped inside carrying a briefcase filled with fraudulent debt-assumption contracts designed to legally strip me of my inheritance. As Vance pulled the papers across the mahogany table with a predatory smile, the connecting door to the private archive room flew open, and Dante stepped into the room with two federal-grade recording devices and an array of armed guards blocking every exit.
