Chapter 4 - The Stolen EstateThe following morning, news of the raid at the Vale estate dominated local and national headlines:

BREAKING NEWS: STATE POLICE CAPTAIN RESCUES FOUNDER OF VALE LOGISTICS FROM LOCKED SHED; PARENTS AND BROTHER ARRESTED IN MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR SCHEME.

The public reaction was explosive. The image of a decorated female police captain discovering her own grandfather locked in an unheated shed while her family lived in luxury went viral across social media feeds.

I sat in the private wing of St. Jude’s Hospital beside my grandfather’s bed.

He was hooked up to warm IV fluids, wearing clean hospital gowns, his face pale but his eyes bright and alert for the first time in months.

“Elena...” he rasped, taking my hand in his frail, bruised fingers. “I thought... I thought you forgot about me...”

Tears welled up in my eyes, but I swallowed them down, giving his hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze.

“I never forgot about you, Grandpa,” I whispered. “They lied to you. They intercepted my letters and blocked my calls. But it’s over now. They will never hurt you again.”

The door clicked open, and State Prosecutor Sarah Jenkins stepped into the room carrying a thick legal briefcase.

“Captain Vale,” Sarah said, nodding respectfully. “We’ve just received the official ruling from Chancery Court. The judge has executed an emergency freeze on every asset associated with Richard, Beatrice, and Nolan Vale.”

“What about the company shares?” I asked.

“The power of attorney has been declared null and void based on the ICU medical records,” Sarah explained, pulling out a signed court order. “Full voting control of Vale Global Logistics has been restored to Henry Vale, with you appointed as his legal guardian and trustee.”

My grandfather looked at the court order, tears streaming down his hollow cheeks.

“Thank you, my sweet girl,” Henry whispered. “You brought the light back into my world.”
