Chapter 9 - The Handcuff VerdictSix months later, the criminal trial of State v. Ethan Vance concluded at the Superior Court of Massachusetts.

The courtroom was packed with media reporters, domestic violence advocates, and corporate observers.

I sat in the front row of the gallery, wearing an elegant cream-colored suit, my posture straight, my brow completely healed without a scar, holding my sister Grace’s hand.

Ethan sat at the defense table in an orange prison jumpsuit, his hair unkempt, his face hollow, looking like a ghost of the arrogant man who had shoved me down the stairs.

The judge slammed his gavel down, delivering a scathing judgment from the bench.

“Ethan Vance,” the judge declared, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom. “Your actions represent a calculated, cowardly pattern of violence, deceit, and financial manipulation. You betrayed your marital vows and attempted to destroy the very woman who gave you a home.”

The judge sentenced Ethan Vance to fourteen years in state prison for felony aggravated assault, domestic abuse, witness intimidation, and corporate embezzlement without option for early parole.

Vanessa Vale was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay full financial restitution to Vance Financial Group.

As court marshals pulled Ethan up from his seat, he looked over at me sitting in the gallery.

I met his gaze with calm, unshakeable dignity, watching silently as he was led away in heavy iron chains through the iron doors forever.
