Chapter 3 - The Hospital Room ThreatThat night at nine o'clock, my phone chimed on the nightstand.

A text message arrived from Ethan:
ETHAN: I changed the locks on the front door today. You can come pick up your clothes next week once you apologize to Vanessa.
I sat up in the hospital bed, staring at the message. A cold, sharp smile touched my lips.
I typed back three simple words: âI understand, Ethan.â
Then I opened my email app, attached the unedited high-definition security camera video, the hospital audio recording, and the doctorâs forensic injury evaluation, and pressed send directly to Detective Marcus Hill at the Municipal Police Department.
Within twenty minutes, Detective Hill called my cell phone.
âMrs. Clara Vance?â Detective Hillâs deep voice boomed through the speaker, grave and intense. âI just reviewed the video footage from your residence. Where is your husband right now?â

âStay in the hospital, Mrs. Vance,â Detective Hill instructed firmly. âOfficers are en route to execute an arrest warrant for felony aggravated assault, domestic violence, and obstruction of justice.â
