Chapter 6 - The Financial ExecutionTen minutes later, two private paramedics had wrapped my torso in a tight medical binder, giving me a localized pain injection that dulled the agony in my ribs to a manageable ache. I sat supported by silk pillows on the foyer sofa, wrapped in my father’s cashmere coat, sipping warm tea.

Brandon was forced to sit on the floor in the center of the room, surrounded by Vincent's men. Ashley sat weeping silently on the far ottoman, terrified to make a sound.
The heavy front door opened again, and a tall man wearing gold-rimmed glasses and carrying a leather briefcase walked in. It was Michael Ross, the chief legal officer of Moretti Enterprises.
"Mr. Moretti," Michael said, bowing his head slightly before turning to me. "Miss Emma, it is an honor to finally meet you. I am deeply sorry for the circumstances."
"What do you have, Michael?" Vincent asked, leaning on his cane.
Michael opened his briefcase, pulling out a thick stack of financial dossiers. "We’ve spent the last thirty minutes auditing Mr. Vance’s corporate holdings, personal accounts, and debt structures."
Michael looked down at Brandon with a look of professional pity. "Mr. Vance is the Senior Vice President of Vantage Capital. What he hasn't told his board of directors—or his wife—is that he personally guaranteed a forty-million-dollar commercial loan for a development project in Brooklyn six months ago."
Brandon’s head snapped up, his face turning pale gray. "How... how do you have those files? Those are confidential banking documents!"
"Vantage Capital’s primary creditor is First National Bank," Michael replied smoothly. "First National is owned by a holding company whose majority shareholder sits on Mr. Moretti's board. Ten minutes ago, Mr. Moretti exercised his option to purchase that forty-million-dollar debt note in full."
Brandon blinked, completely lost. "What does that mean?"
Vincent walked over and tapped the tip of his silver cane against Brandon’s chest.
"It means I am now your sole creditor, Brandon," Vincent said softly. "And as of three minutes ago, I have declared your loan in default due to breach of moral conduct clauses built into the underwriting agreement."
"You can't do that!" Brandon shrieked, panic surging back into his voice. "I have thirty days to cure a default!"
"Not when the creditor proves fraudulent representation," Michael interjected, handing a paper to Vincent. "We have already submitted proof to the SEC showing that you used your wife’s private inheritance accounts as collateral without her legal signature—a clear act of grand forgery."
Brandon looked at me, his eyes wide with desperate pleading. "Emma! Tell them it's a mistake! We can work this out! We're married!"
"Not anymore," I said, setting my teacup down on the saucer with a soft click. "Michael, who owns this house?"
"The deed was originally purchased under your personal pre-marital trust, Miss Emma," Michael answered. "Mr. Vance attempted to add his name to the title last year, but the filing was rejected due to incomplete paperwork. Legally, this house belongs entirely to you. He is a trespasser."
I looked at Brandon, meeting his gaze with absolute coldness.
"You told me I was nothing without you," I said softly. "You told Ashley I had nowhere to go. But every brick of this house, every dollar in those accounts, and every second of your career existed because I allowed it."
"Emma, please!" Brandon began to crawl toward me on his hands and knees, tears streaming down his face. "I was stupid! I was drunk! Ashley seduced me! It meant nothing!"
Ashley gasped from the corner. "Brandon! You told me you loved me!"
"Shut up, you parasite!" Brandon screamed back at her, turning his desperate eyes back to me. "Emma, give me one more chance! I'll do anything! I'll get on my knees! I'll sign whatever you want!"

Vincent stepped between Brandon and my sofa, his massive frame blocking Brandon’s view of me entirely.
"You don't get to speak to my daughter anymore," Vincent said, his voice dropping into a register that shook the room. "Michael, call the District Attorney."
