THE BLOOD OF MORETTI / Chapter 3 / 10

Chapter 3 - The Gathering StormFifteen miles away, in a private high-rise penthouse overlooking the Manhattan skyline, eighty-two-year-old Vincent Moretti stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window, adjusting his dark silk tie. Though his hair was silver, his shoulders were broad, and his dark eyes burned with an icy, lethal clarity that decades of luxury had never dulled.

Beside him stood Tony "The Hammer" Lucchesi, his chief enforcer for thirty years, holding a heavy black leather coat.

"Boss," Tony said softly. "The boys are downstairs. Six vehicles. We have the local police captain on the line. He’s clearing the grid around the estate now."

Vincent slipped his arms into the coat, his face completely unreadable. "My daughter called me, Tony. For twenty-five years, she refused my money, my protection, and my name because her mother wanted her clean. And tonight, some low-level corporate leech laid his hands on her."

Tony’s expression hardened into iron. "What are your orders?"

"We tear that house down to the foundation," Vincent replied smoothly. "Call Michael in legal. Tell him to pull every corporate file, every loan agreement, and every debt structure connected to Brandon Vance and his firm. I want his financial life destroyed before the sun comes up."

Meanwhile, back in Westchester, Brandon was standing in the kitchen pouring two glasses of scotch. Ashley sat on the island counter, wearing Emma’s silk robe, swinging her legs casually.

"Are you sure she won't try to call someone?" Ashley asked, taking a glass from him.

"With what?" Brandon chuckled, leaning against the counter. "Her purse is sitting right there on the foyer table. Her laptop is locked in my study. She has no family left. Her mother died five years ago, and she hasn't mentioned a father since the day I met her. She's completely isolated."

He took a slow sip of his drink, feeling a surge of satisfaction. For years, he had felt subtly intimidated by Emma’s sharp intellect and her quiet, aristocratic grace. Tonight, he had finally established absolute authority.

Suddenly, a strange sound vibrated through the floorboards.

It wasn't a thump from the basement. It was a low, rhythmic thrumming sound approaching from down the quiet residential street—the deep, unified roar of multiple heavy V8 engines moving in formation.

Ashley frowned, setting her glass down. "What is that? Are the neighbors throwing a party?"

Brandon walked to the grand front window and pulled back the velvet curtains.

Down the long, dark driveway, past the stone security gates, six massive black Cadillacs sped toward the house without their headlights on, moving like silent shadows through the rain.

They didn't slow down at the closed iron gates.

The lead vehicle, an armored SUV, smashed directly into the heavy iron doors, snapping the electronic lock mechanism with a deafening metallic screech that shattered the quiet night. The gates swung wildly open, crashing into the stone pillars.

Brandon stumbled back from the window, his heart dropping into his stomach. "What the hell..."

The six vehicles swept into the circular driveway, surrounding the mansion in a tight, military perimeter. High-powered halogen floodlights mounted on the roofs of the SUVs snapped on simultaneously, instantly illuminating the front façade of the house in a blinding, artificial daylight.

In the basement, I saw the stark white light filtering through the tiny street-level window near the ceiling.

They were here.

Heavy footsteps began pounding up the stone steps of the front porch.
