Chapter 10 - The Porch Light HomeOne year after the rescue.

The sun was setting in brilliant shades of gold, rose, and purple over my cozy craftsman home in the country. The air smelled of fresh pine, blooming jasmine, and warm apple pie baking in the oven.
On the wide wooden front porch, Claire sat on the porch swing, wearing a comfortable knitted sweater, laughing as she read a medical journal. Her face was completely healed, her skin radiant, her spirit whole and free.
I walked out onto the porch carrying two mugs of hot tea, setting one down on the small table beside her.
âThank you, Mom,â Claire smiled, taking a slow sip.
I sat beside her on the swing, listening to the gentle hum of crickets in the yard and the soft rustle of the wind through the oak trees.
My phone chimed on my lap. It was a notification from the clinicâa message from a young mother thanking Claire for saving her childâs life earlier that morning.
Claire looked at the screen, a deep, beautiful peace washing over her face.
âYou know, Mom,â Claire said softly, leaning her head against my shoulder. âWhen I was down in that dark room, tapping on that copper pipe, I kept telling myself that nobody could hear me. I thought the sound was just disappearing into the dirt.â
I wrapped my arm around my daughter, holding her close against my side.

âA mother always hears her child, Claire,â I whispered, watching the stars begin to twinkle in the clear evening sky. âNo matter how deep the room is, and no matter how thick the walls are.â
The front porch light burned bright and warm against the night, illuminating a home built on truth, courage, and a love that no lock could ever break.
