Chapter 4 - The Return of the PredatorsFor the next forty-eight hours, I played the role of the exhausted, naive wife with perfection.

I cooked dinner, listened quietly as Daniel boasted about his pending “real estate investments,” and allowed Lorraine to lecture me on house decor. Every night, while Daniel slept peacefully beside me, I snuck down to the back room with fresh food, water, and proper medication for Margaret.

Under proper care, Margaret’s strength returned rapidly. Her sharp mind was fully intact, and she spent hours giving me exact details of how Daniel and Lorraine had isolated her, confiscated her phone, and forced her to reveal her private bank account numbers.

On Thursday morning, Nina Park met me in secret at a coffee shop five miles from the house, alongside Special Agent Reyes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Agent Reyes reviewed the mirrored digital evidence, the audio recordings, and the forensic signatures on my laptop screen.

“This is airtight, Mrs. Hale,” Agent Reyes said, leaning back in his chair with a look of profound disgust. “We have clear evidence of wire fraud, grand larceny, elder abuse, and identity theft. We can execute arrest warrants today.”

“Not yet, Agent Reyes,” I insisted, sliding a map of the closing location across the table. “Tomorrow at two PM, Daniel and Lorraine are meeting Greg Miller at the city title office to execute the final deed transfer for Margaret’s oceanfront property. They’ve invited the buyers—a private investment group—to wire the three million dollars directly into their Nevada shell account.”

Agent Reyes smiled—a sharp, cold expression. “You want us to catch them red-handed at the closing table.”

“I want the wire transfer executed, the deed stamped, and the pen in Daniel’s hand when your team walks into that conference room,” I said. “I want them to have zero legal exits.”

“And what about the eight hundred thousand dollars he stole from your company?” Nina asked.

“My forensic team has already placed a silent federal freeze on that account,” I revealed. “The moment Daniel tries to withdraw a single dollar tomorrow, the bank system will trigger an immediate compliance lock.”

Agent Reyes closed his notebook. “We’ll be staged in the adjoining conference room at 1:45 PM tomorrow, Evelyn. Make sure Grandma Margaret is in a safe location.”

“Grandma Margaret won't be hiding,” I said, looking out the window at the rain. “She’s coming to the closing meeting with me.”
