Chapter 11 - The Midnight RaidJust as peace seemed within reach, the final remnants of Victoria Knight’s syndicate made one last desperate move. It was past midnight at the new Virginia home. Ethan was in the study reviewing legal documents regarding Maya’s dual-custody arrangement with the Vances, when a sharp shattering sound echoed from the front hallway.

Intruder alert.

Ethan’s military instincts kicked in instantly. He extinguished the desk lamp, silently drawing his licensed sidearm from the wall safe, and slipped into the darkened corridor. Two masked figures dressed in tactical black were moving stealthily toward the guest room where Oliver and Rose were sleeping. They were corporate fixers sent by a rogue board member trying to retrieve compromising financial hard drives Victoria had hidden before her arrest.

Ethan didn't hesitate. "Freeze! Federal officers!" he shouted, lunging forward and tackling the lead intruder into the drywall before the man could raise his weapon. The second intruder spun around, aiming a suppressed pistol, but Rose stepped out of the hallway with a heavy brass floor lamp, smashing it across the second man's shoulder with surprising ferocity.

The man staggered, and Ethan swept his legs out from under him, pinning him to the floor in seconds. Within minutes, local police and military police backup—alerted by Ethan’s home security panic button—swarmed the property, slapping cuffs on both intruders.

Oliver peered out from behind Rose’s skirt, wide-eyed but safe. Ethan walked over, kneeling down to wrap his arms around his son. "You okay, buddy?" Oliver nodded, burying his face in Ethan’s shoulder. "You protected us," the boy whispered. Ethan kissed the top of his head. "Always."
