Chapter 11 - The Second Anomaly|

"Daniel, lock the burner phone in an evidence bag," I ordered, stepping back into the living room.

"Ethan, what are we doing with Rosa?" Daniel asked, his hand resting on his sidearm holster.

I looked at Rosa, who was weeping uncontrollably, holding Emma against her chest. I thought of how Rosa had held Claire’s hand when Claire was sick during her pregnancy. I thought of how Rosa had spent endless nights helping me feed three crying babies when I was too exhausted to stand.

"Leave her here," I said softly. "Keep two guards at the door. No one enters, no one leaves."

"Ethan, she's a threat!" Daniel argued, following me out into the crisp night air.

"If Victoria wanted to build a custody case," I reasoned, walking briskly toward the main house, "why would she leave a burner phone inside Rosa’s nightstand where we could find it five minutes after her lawyer arrived? It’s too neat. It’s a trail designed to be followed."

We walked back into the main house. The nursery was quiet now. The triplets were sleeping peacefully in their cribs, monitored by Sarah and two additional nurses.

I stood over Noah's crib, watching his little chest rise and fall.

"Daniel, run a deep audit on our internal server," I commanded. "Not just the security logs. I want to see every line of code executed on our network over the last forty-eight hours."

"What are you looking for?"

"I’m looking for the person who actually cloned Rosa’s keycard," I said, my eyes hardening. "Because you can't fake a PIN code and a security fob without root access to the master server."

May you like

Daniel paused, his grey eyes flashing with realization. "Root access... only two people have root access to the estate's main mainframe."

"You," I said, turning to look at my security chief. "And me."
