Chapter 5 — The Doorbell Saved Me... Or Made Everything Worse

The front doorbell echoed through the mansion.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

My husband frowned.

He hadn't expected visitors.

For the first time that night...

He looked nervous.

Someone outside shouted,

"Special delivery!"

He relaxed instantly.

"Oh..."

"Perfect timing."

He unlocked the bedroom door.

Before leaving, he looked directly at me.

"You'll behave."

It wasn't a question.

He walked downstairs.

I waited only three seconds before following silently.

From the staircase, I watched him open the front door.

Three men in black suits stood outside.

Each carried a large gift box wrapped with an elegant white ribbon.

The oldest smiled politely.

"We're here to congratulate the bride."

My husband forced a smile.

"You must have the wrong house."

The oldest man's expression vanished.

He slowly looked past him...

Straight toward me.

Our eyes met.

Then he spoke six words that made everyone in the mansion freeze.

"Emily..."

"We're your biological brothers."

The gift boxes dropped to the marble floor.

And my husband's face turned completely white.
