Chapter 10 - THE MONEY THAT MOVED WHILE THEY PRAYED|

Marcus read the note in the hospital corridor while Julian stared through the glass at his son.
"The final transfer," Marcus murmured.
He called the family's chief financial officer, who answered on the second ring.
Within minutes, they confirmed that several voting shares in Thorn Global had been transferred into a trust controlled by Eleanor. The transfer had occurred automatically when Leo's birth was registered in the hospital system.
The transaction had been prepared months earlier and activated by a legal clause tied to the birth certificate.
"Can it be reversed?" Marcus asked.
"Not without a court order or evidence that the triggering condition was obtained through fraud."
"Then find the fraud."
The financial officer began reviewing the records. The transfer relied on a certificate signed by a private physician and a declaration that Elena had consented to the arrangement. But Elena had never signed such a document.
The signature had been copied from her marriage paperwork.
Marcus looked at Julian.
"Did you know about the clause?"
Julian's face went pale.
"I knew there was a succession provision. I didn't know it would transfer shares to my grandmother."
"Who drafted it?"
"The family attorney, Richard Cole."
"Then Richard Cole will explain it to the authorities."
Julian rubbed his forehead.
"I thought the trust was meant to protect Elena and the baby. I signed documents without reading every attachment."
Marcus's voice sharpened.
"That is how people lose their homes, their companies, and their freedom. You don't get to hide behind not reading what you sign."
Julian accepted the rebuke.
He called the attorney and demanded an immediate meeting. Richard Cole insisted that the transfer was legal and that Elena's signature had been authenticated.
Marcus placed the phone on speaker.
"Mr. Cole, we have evidence that the signature was copied from another document. We also have a forged medical order and an unauthorized access record. You can explain the arrangement to the prosecutor, or you can continue making your position worse."
The attorney went silent.
Then he said, "Eleanor instructed me to prepare the transfer. I believed she had Elena's consent."
"Did you see it?"
"No."
"Then you have a problem."
Marcus ended the call.
At the hospital, Elena woke briefly and asked to see Leo. Dr. Reed arranged for her to view a photograph taken by the neonatal team. The baby was tiny, but his eyes were open.
Elena pressed the photograph against her chest.
"He's beautiful."
Patricia smiled.
"He looks like he already has opinions."
Elena laughed weakly, then began to cry.
"Is Julian here?"
"He's been here the whole time."
"Has he asked to come in?"
"Several times. He has respected your decision."
Elena looked at the photograph again.
"Tell him he can visit for five minutes tomorrow. With the doctor present."
Patricia nodded.
Meanwhile, Marcus met with the hospital's security director. They discovered that Saraphina had been paid through a consulting firm controlled by Northstar Advisory. The same firm had funded the forged transfer order and the secret surveillance.
But the bank records showed something even more disturbing.
Northstar had received money from a charitable foundation once managed by Catherine Thorne.
The foundation's accounts had been inactive for years, yet someone had continued moving money through them.
Marcus stared at the transaction list.
His mother had not merely been protecting an inheritance.
Someone had been using Catherine's name to finance the entire scheme.
The final transaction included a memo.
PROJECT HEIR: PHASE TWO COMPLETE.
