Chapter 9 - The Secret Ally

Escaping the suffocating confines of the main house later that afternoon, Clara walked down toward the old estate greenhouse, a crumbling Victorian structure overgrown with ivy where staff rarely ventured. She pulled out her phone and dialed a secure, pre-arranged number.
The call connected after a single ring. "Talk to me, Clara. Did you find what we need?" a deep, familiar male voice asked on the other end.
"Marcus, the financial trails are worse than we thought," Clara whispered, keeping watch through the glass panes of the greenhouse. "Eleanor isn't just embezzling; she’s actively liquidating Vance Global assets behind Julian's back to fund a hostile takeover through a proxy shell company."

Marcus Vance, Julian’s estranged younger half-brother who had been exiled by Eleanor years ago for refusing to bow to her tyranny, let out a dark laugh on the line. "The old witch is getting desperate. She knows Julian has been auditing the primary ledgers. She's preparing to run."
"Not if we move first," Clara countered sharply. "I need you to secure the physical backup servers located in the downtown vault. Once I upload the final decryption keys from the main estate office tonight, we’ll have everything needed to freeze every asset she owns."
