Chapter 8 - The Question beneath the Red Rocks

Julian held me close against his chest, breathing in the scent of cedar and desert sage that clung to my hair.

We walked along the stone pathway leading to a private overlook above the canyon, where the setting sun painted the red rock spires in breathtaking hues of crimson, amber, and violet.

Julian stopped, turning me gently to face him, his hands resting warmly on my waist.

"Mia," Julian said, his deep baritone trembling with raw, honest vulnerability. "Watching you fight for your life taught me what real strength is. You took the darkest cruelty in this world and transformed it into a sanctuary of healing for thousands of people."

He looked deep into my eyes.

"For three years, I’ve loved you from afar as your doctor and your friend. But standing here today, I know that my life has no meaning without you by my side."

Julian reached into his pocket, dropping to one knee on the red stone terrace.

He opened a velvet box, revealing a magnificent, three-carat oval-cut diamond ring set in rose gold, flanked by two brilliant emerald stones.

"Mia Hayes," Julian said, his eyes shining with tears of devotion. "Will you marry me? Will you let me love you, protect you, and cherish you for every single day of our lives?"

Tears of boundless, radiant joy spilled over my cheeks.

"Yes, Julian!" I wept happily, throwing my arms around him as he stood. "Yes, a thousand times yes!"

Julian lifted me into his arms, spinning me across the terrace beneath the blazing Arizona sunset, sealing our promise with a deep, tender kiss.
