Chapter 7 - The Sanctuary in Sedona

Six months passed.

The brutal summer heat gave way to the crisp, golden beauty of autumn in Northern Arizona.

Arthur Hayes was convicted on all counts, receiving an eighteen-year sentence at the federal penitentiary in Tucson, while Brandon was sentenced to eight years with mandatory restitution. Cynthia was stripped of all real estate holdings to satisfy the multi-million-dollar civil judgment Marcus Sterling won on my behalf, leaving her in a small rental apartment in Mesa with zero social standing.

With the five million dollars restored from my grandmother's trust, I began a completely new chapter.

I purchased a stunning, sun-drenched four-bedroom adobe estate nestled against the red rocks of Sedona. The home featured wrap-around stone terraces, expansive glass windows overlooking Oak Creek Canyon, and a private botanical greenhouse filled with desert flora.

My hair had grown back into thick, healthy chestnut waves, my strength was completely restored, and I had gained twenty-five pounds of healthy muscle through daily hiking and nutrition.

I established the Mia Hayes Oncology Hope Fund—a three-million-dollar non-profit foundation providing direct surgical grants, housing stipends, and legal advocacy for young cancer patients facing financial abandonment by abusive families.

One golden Saturday afternoon, Julian arrived at my Sedona home, wearing a comfortable flannel shirt and jeans, carrying a basket of fresh apples from a local orchard.

"Dr. Vance," I smiled, walking across the terrace to wrap my arms around his neck. "You're right on time for sunset."
