Chapter 10 - The Bloom of Tomorrow

Two years later, the summer garden behind the Montana lodge was in full, radiant bloom.
Long wooden picnic tables were set under the shade of ancient pine trees, covered in white linen, mason jars of wild sunflowers, and platters of grilled trout and fresh garden vegetables.
Over fifty people filled the yard: local timber families, park rangers, youth camp counselors, and friends from the community.
Walking along the stone path carrying a basket of fresh heirloom tomatoes was David Ross—a wildlife biologist and longtime director of the Montana Forest Reserve whom I had met during the trust's initial land survey. David was kind, gentle, and utterly devoted to our family. When he looked at Sophia, he saw a precious little girl whose laughter was the heartbeat of the valley.
"Sophia!" David called out with a warm, easy smile, setting his basket down.
Three-year-old Sophia came running across the grass in her little denim overalls, giggling as she jumped straight into David's arms. He tossed her into the air, catching her with a warm laugh before carrying her over to where I was standing by the flower beds.
"Look what we picked, Mommy!" Sophia beamed, proudly holding up a perfect, sun-ripened red tomato.
"It's beautiful, sweetheart," I smiled, kissing her soft cheek.
David gently wrapped his arm around my waist, his warm, steady presence anchoring my heart with deep, profound peace.
"Ready for the annual sanctuary dedication, Maya?" David asked softly.
"More ready than I’ve ever been," I replied, resting my head against his shoulder.
I looked down at the rich, dark garden soil beneath our feet.

Four years ago, a man had tried to bury me in the cold dirt, believing that cruelty could extinguish my light and steal my child. But he had forgotten a timeless truth of the earth: When you bury a seed in the dark, it does not die. It takes root, breaks through the soil, and grows into something unyielding, beautiful, and impossible to break.
Surrounded by truth, honor, and unconditional love, our life was finally in full, everlasting bloom.
