Chapter 14 - The Morning Before My Wedding

The morning before my wedding, my hair reached halfway down my back again.

My stylist asked how I wanted it.

I stared into the mirror.

For years I had imagined this moment.

Long hair restored.

Evidence erased.

Instead, I surprised myself.

“Cut it.”

She froze.

“How short?”

“To my shoulders.”

Dad stared when I arrived at rehearsal.

“You cut your hair.”

“I did.”

“Why?”

I smiled.

“Because this time I chose it.”

He understood immediately.

At rehearsal dinner, Julian touched one curl.

“I love it.”

“You’d better.”

“I loved the other version too.”

May you like

“I know.”

That was the point.
