Chapter 5 - The Fall from GraceWithin three hours, news of Daniel’s dramatic downfall spread across the entire corporate world like wildfire. The press released official statements confirming his termination due to gross misconduct and financial irregularities.

Stripped of his executive status, Daniel found himself completely locked out of his former life. His corporate credit cards were declined at every hotel in the city. His luxury sports car was repossessed from the parking garage before noon.
By evening, Daniel and Vanessa were sitting in a cramped, budget motel on the outskirts of the city, surrounding by cheap plastic furniture and the harsh glare of fluorescent lighting.
“This is all your fault!” Vanessa yelled, pacing furiously across the stained carpet. “You told me she was nobody! You told me she was a pathetic, clueless housewife who would take a small settlement and quietly disappear!”
Daniel sat on the edge of the bed, his expensive suit rumpled and stained, staring blankly at the floor. “How was I supposed to know she was Arthur Harlow’s daughter?! She drove a five-year-old Honda! She baked her own bread! She never bought designer clothes!”
“Because she didn’t need to prove anything to anyone!” Vanessa shrieked. “And now I’m ruined too! The legal team sent me a formal subpoena this afternoon! They’re freezing my accounts!”
Daniel grabbed his hair in frustration. “We still have options. I still have connections in the industry. Someone will hire me.”
“Are you insane?” Vanessa sneered, pulling a bottle of cheap wine from her bag. “You’re blacklisted! Nobody in New York, London, or Tokyo will touch you after what Harlow Industries published today! You’re toxic, Daniel!”
Suddenly, Daniel’s phone buzzed on the nightstand. He snatched it up, hoping against hope that it was a former colleague offering a lifeline.
It was a text message notification from his bank:
ALERT: Your personal checking account ending in 4092 has been frozen per court order #88492.
Daniel’s breath hitched in his throat. “They froze my personal savings...”
Vanessa stared at him in absolute horror. “What about the Cayman account? The offshore money?”
Daniel checked his secondary banking app with trembling fingers. The balance read: $0.00.
A secondary notification appeared: FUNDS SEIZED BY FEDERAL FORENSIC AUDIT.
Vanessa let out a furious scream, grabbed her coat, and snatched her purse off the table.
“Where are you going?!” Daniel demanded, standing up.

“Away from you!” Vanessa snapped, her eyes burning with hatred. “I stayed with you because you were going to be the next CEO of Harlow Industries! Now you’re just a broke, disgraced criminal facing federal charges! Don’t ever contact me again!”
She slammed the motel door behind her, leaving Daniel entirely alone in the quiet dark.
