Chapter 6 - The ConfrontationWith Julian, Arthur, and Mark by my side, we took our evidence to the state prosecutor's office. The paper trail of Thomas Sterling’s corruption was undeniable: land deed forgery, embezzling millions from the Sullivan trust, and sending anonymous threats to keep Rachel in hiding.

On Thursday afternoon, accompanied by federal investigators, we walked into Sterling’s lucrative downtown law firm.
Thomas Sterling, now a wealthy attorney in his late 60s, sat behind a massive mahogany desk. When he saw me step into his office holding the legal files, followed by Arthur and federal agents, his arrogant posture shattered.
"Emma..." Sterling stammered, standing up as his face drained of color. "This is a misunderstanding—"
"Fifteen years ago, you threatened my sister and told my father we were dead to him," I said, my voice cold as steel, echoing through the high-ceilinged room. "You stole our family's money, but worse than that, you stole my sister's peace."
"You have no proof!" Sterling sneered, trying to regain control.

The lead investigator stepped forward, holding up a warrant. "Rachel Sullivan kept audio recordings of your extortion calls, Mr. Sterling. You're under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, and extortion."
As handcuffs clicked around Sterling's wrists, I watched him get led away in shame, feeling a massive weight lift off my chest.
