Chapter 5 - A Father in the DarkAs we pieced together Rachel's life, another question emerged: Who was the father of the twins?

Rachel’s letter mentioned a man named Julian Vance—a gentle marine biologist who had been her partner for the past two years. However, three months into her pregnancy, Julian had mysteriously disappeared during a research expedition off the coast, leaving Rachel convinced she was alone again.
With Mark’s help, we contacted the maritime research authority. To our shock, we learned that Julian hadn't died at sea—his research vessel had been stranded due to a sabotage incident, and he had been stuck in a remote overseas medical facility with severe amnesia following a storm.
Julian had only just recovered his memory and returned to the country two days ago, searching desperately for Rachel, unaware that she had given birth—or that she was gone.
When Julian arrived at my apartment, he was pale, thin, and distraught. When he saw Noah and Oliver sleeping in their cribs, he sank to his knees, weeping uncontrollably.

"I tried so hard to get back to her," Julian choked out, looking up at me. "She thought I abandoned her, didn't she?"
"No," I said softly, helping him up. "She kept your picture by her bed. She loved you until the very end."
