Chapter 4 - The Projector at the AltarNow, the heavy cathedral doors swung open.

The organ played the bridal entrance, and three hundred guests stood up, turning around to smile at the pregnant bride in her grandmother’s lace dress.

Blake stood at the altar, smoothing his tie, putting on a broad, handsome smile for the news cameras stationed near the balcony.

Emma walked down the long white aisle slowly, deliberately, holding her floral bouquet in one hand and her smartphone hidden beneath the lace in the other.

When she reached the altar steps, Blake reached out his hand to take hers.

“You look beautiful, my love,” Blake whispered smoothly, putting on his best devoted groom expression.

Emma did not take his hand. She stepped up onto the riser, turned her back to the priest, and looked directly into the eyes of the three hundred high-society guests.

The music faded into an awkward silence.

“Emma?” Blake frowned, his smile faltering slightly. “What are you doing, babe?”

Eleanor Donovan leaned forward from the front pew, her pearls clutching her throat. “Emma, step up to the altar! People are watching!”

Emma pulled her smartphone from her dress, holding it up high toward the ceiling.

“Yes, Eleanor,” Emma’s voice rang out, clear, steady, and carrying across the high vaulted arches. “People are watching. So let’s make sure they see everything.”

She tapped the screen once.

Behind the altar, the cathedral’s giant forty-foot projection screen—installed for the ceremony’s live video stream—flickered to life.
