Chapter 8 - The New Arrival

Before Ethan could initiate a formal legal investigation into Julian Vance, an unexpected visitor arrived at the iron security gates of Vale House. It was Julian himself, flanked by his glamorous assistant, Cynthia, stepping out of a sleek European sedan with an expression of feigned corporate concern.
Maggie watched from an upstairs window as Ethan met them on the front terrace. Julian approached with open arms, flashing a brilliant, theatrical smile. "Ethan, old man! I heard about your swimming accident. Thank God you're okay. Cynthia and I rushed over the moment we heard management was in turmoil."
"Management is fine, Julian," Ethan replied coldly, remaining seated in his wheelchair, refusing to offer a handshake. "Just streamlining the household."
May you like
"Streamlining by firing your entire domestic staff?" Cynthia chimed in, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness as she adjusted her designer sunglasses. "Really, Ethan, it looks rather chaotic out here. You need experienced people running this estate, not stray newcomers."
Maggie stepped back from the window, her blood running cold. She didn't need proof to know that Julian Vance and Cynthia were intimately connected to the missing ledgers. They hadn't come to check on Ethan’s health; they had come to assess whether their financial trap had been discovered.
