Chapter 4 - The Eviction of LorraineWhile Daniel was being escorted out of the corporate headquarters in front of hundreds of whispering employees, his mother was experiencing her own public downfall at our suburban estate.

Under the terms of the court-ordered temporary protective order, Lorraine had been granted a strict two-hour window—from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—to collect her personal clothing from the guest wing under the direct supervision of the county sheriff’s department.

At 11:15 a.m., two marked sheriff’s cruisers pulled up the driveway, accompanied by my attorney, Miriam Cross, and me.

Lorraine arrived in a taxi, wearing an oversized coat, her hair unwashed, looking frantically around the property. When she saw me standing on the porch, her face contorted in pure, venomous rage.

“You miserable, backstabbing witch!” Lorraine shrieked, charging up the stone steps.

Deputy Sheriff Thomas stepped smoothly into her path, holding up his hand firmly. “Ma'am, stay right there! You step one inch closer to Miss Vale, and I will place you under arrest for violating a court order!”

Lorraine stopped, shaking with rage, her lips trembling. “This is my home! My son owns this company! You can’t treat me like a common criminal!”

“Your son doesn't own anything, Lorraine,” I said from the porch, holding a list of impounded assets. “And as of nine o'clock this morning, his employment with Vale North Holdings has been officially terminated by unanimous vote of the board of directors.”

Lorraine gasped, clutching her throat. “Terminated...? No... no, that’s impossible! Daniel is the brain of that company!”

“Your son was an employee,” Miriam Cross corrected smoothly. “An employee who is currently under active criminal investigation by the State Attorney General’s Financial Crimes Bureau.”

Deputy Thomas opened the front door. “You have ninety minutes to pack your clothes, ma'am. Any jewelry, designer bags, or artwork purchased using corporate credit lines over the last three years have been inventoried and impounded by court order.”

Lorraine rushed inside the house, heading straight for the master suite.

Ten minutes later, loud screams of frustration echoed down the hallway. Lorraine ran out carrying three designer leather bags, only for Deputy Thomas to inspect them at the door and confiscate two of them containing impounded gold necklaces and luxury watches purchased with stolen company funds.

“You can’t take my jewelry!” Lorraine wailed, weeping hysterically on the marble floor. “My son bought those for me!”

“Your son bought those using stolen corporate reserves, Mrs. Vance,” Miriam stated flatly. “They are now part of the victim restitution fund.”

By 1:00 p.m., Lorraine was escorted down the front steps carrying a single suitbag containing her basic clothes.

Her expensive lifestyle, her high-society status, and her arrogant pride had completely evaporated in less than twenty-four hours. She stood at the end of the driveway, clutching her coat against the cold wind, waiting for a city bus because her private credit cards were gone forever.

I stood on the balcony of my home, watching her walk away into the distance, feeling a profound, deep sense of peace wash over my heart for the first time in three years.
