Chapter 9 - Reclaiming the LegacyTwenty minutes later, the chaotic boardroom had cleared out.

Charles Blackwell stood by the window, staring out over the city skyline. He turned as Owen and Harper gathered their belongings from the podium.
“Mister Parker. Ms. Bennett,” Charles said, his voice quiet and aged. “I owe you both a debt that cannot easily be repaid. My son’s actions were monstrous, and I apologize for the damage he caused to your lives.”
Harper looked at him calmly. “We just wanted the truth out, Mister Blackwell.”
Charles nodded, turning his eyes to Owen. “Your forensic audit saved this corporation from a catastrophic federal raid, Owen. Our senior vice president of IT compliance retired last month. The board would like to offer you the position immediately, along with full oversight of our fair-wage housing initiative.”
Owen looked down at Harper, a quiet smile playing at the edge of his lips.
“I accept,” Owen said, “on one condition.”
“Name it,” Charles replied.
