Chapter 9 - The Hand on the CradleThat evening, as the discharge paperwork was finalized, Ethan walked into the room wearing a sharp dark suit instead of his surgical scrubs.

He carried a beautiful bouquet of white roses—the same flowers he used to buy her three years ago.

"You're discharged, Ms. Matthews," Ethan said with a warm, handsome grin that made Clare’s heart flutter just like it used to.

"Where are we going?" Clare asked quietly, holding Lily wrapped in a soft yellow blanket.

Ethan stepped up to the wheelchair, taking the handles in his strong hands.

"You are coming home with me," Ethan declared softly. "I bought a house in the suburbs two years ago, Clare. It has four bedrooms, a big backyard, and a room that has been waiting for a little girl for a long time."

Clare looked up at him, her eyes shining with absolute trust. "Is there room for her mother?"

"There is only room for her mother," Ethan whispered against her lips.
