Chapter 6 - Victoria Turns

Victoria Vance asked for immunity.
Her lawyer negotiated for days.
Then she talked.
She admitted the affair.
She admitted receiving confidential scoring information.
She admitted paying Northstar.
But she claimed Julian had approached her first.
“He told me everybody did it,” she said.
Investigators asked who “everybody” meant.
Victoria gave them names.
Executives.
Suppliers.
Consultants.
And one member of Meditron’s board.
The scandal exploded.
Julian was fired.
Two executives resigned.
Trading in a supplier’s stock was temporarily halted.
Elena watched the news from Naomi’s apartment, feeling strangely empty.
She had once imagined revenge would feel satisfying.
Instead, consequences felt quiet.
Necessary.
But quiet.
Then her phone rang.
It was Daniel Hayes, an old friend from college who now worked as a forensic accountant.
“I saw the news.”
“So did everybody.”
“I’m not calling about Julian.”
“Then why?”
“Your name appeared in a public filing.”
Elena froze.
“Daniel—”
“I know you didn’t do this.”
She closed her eyes.
For the first time in weeks, someone had said that without needing proof first.
Daniel continued.
“If you want help understanding the money trail, I’m here.”

That call would eventually change Elena’s life.
But first, Julian was about to become far more dangerous.
